Sunday 1 August: ‘Burnchurch’
This family group of four young Kilkenny musicians Sadhbh, Síofra, Éanna and Ruairí – known as ‘Burnchurch’- began to play and sing together in the Spring and Summer of 2020…. It was a very strange time that certainly lent itself to creativity….. they come from a long line of traditional and classical music and speak Irish at home. Their beautifully bended voices and harmonies give them a very unique sound indeed. They play uilleann pipes, fiddles, flutes, double base, piano and even the ukulele makes an appearance…
They also write their own songs, with ‘One Wish’ written by Siofra back in April 2020 and by mid-summer, they had won ‘2FM’s Amhrán Tí Competition’ with Eanna’s song ‘An Corrán is an Chrois’. March 2020 saw them perform very successfully virtually as part of Kilkenny’s St Patrick’s Day Parade. Many of their songs can be seen on the YouTube channel under the name ‘Burnchurch’, and they continue to write new material for their first album.
