Richard was Elizabeth second surviving son. He was named Lord Deputy of Ireland in 1682 and  governor of the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham in 1683. In 1662, he married Mary Stuart , daughter of the duke of Richmond and Lennox. Follwoing her death in 1668, he remarried Dorothy Ferrers in 1673. Richard died in 1686 with only one surviving daugther, Charlotte.

Tá fianaise le fáil sna litreacha a seoladh i rith bhlianta deireanacha shaol an bhandiúic gur bhraith sí níos suaimhní agus níos sásta ach go raibh cúinsí teaghlaigh agus a ról fós ag déanamh imní di.

Baineann na litreacha a scríobh an bandiúc chuig Richard, Iarla Árann – a mac sa lár, agus an t-aon mhac dá cuid a bhí fós beo – leis an eolas is déanaí a roinnt leis maidir lena bhean agus leanaí, a bhí ina gcónaí leis an diúc agus leis an mbaindiúc i Sasana fad is a bhí Iarla Árann i mbun seirbhíse in Éirinn. Is léir go raibh sí an-cheanúil ar a garchlann agus tagraíonn sí d’iníon a mic mar ‘Bean Blouse’ (cosúil le ‘bean uasal’ sa lá inniu ann). Tá fianaise ar an méid seo le fáil freisin sa chur síos a rinne sí ar dhiúltú gariníne eile do shuiríoch mar gheall ar an gcuma a bhí air. Cuireann sí in iúl go bhfuil sí sásta leis na cinntí atá déanta ag Iarla Árann agus Dorothy Ferrars, dara bean chéile a mic, chun déileáil leis na fadhbanna a bhí acu lena bpósadh. Níl aon amhras ach go bhfuil sí ag smaoineamh ar na fadhbanna a bhain lena pósadh féin agus tá sí ag súil go mbeidh siad sásta lena chéile amach anseo díreach mar atá sí féin lena fear céile anois. Tá fianaise le fáil sna litreacha a scríobh an bandiúc chuig Iarla Árann ar ghean nach raibh le tabhairt faoi deara sna litreacha a scríobh sí chuig a mic eile. Is eiseamláir eisean den dea-chlú agus den dualgas a shíleann sí atá fíorthábhachtach.
Áirítear na litreacha a sheol sí chuig Iarla Árann i measc na litreacha deireanacha a scríobh sí. Cailleadh bandiúc Urumhun maidin Dé Luain, an 21 Iúil 1684, a fear céile lena taobh. Cuireadh í i Mainistir Westminster sa phlota ónar dí-adhlacadh a sean-namhaid, Cromail.
Scríobhadh dhá mharbhna ar a laghad i ndiaidh a báis. Moltar iontu a buanna eiseamláireacha baineanna; déantar comóradh ar a ról mar bhean chéile, máthair agus seanmháthair; agus déantar comóradh ar a stádas mar chéile diúc Urumhun. Pléitear téama phósadh buan, grámhar agus comhbhách na lánúine i litir chomhbhróin a fuair diúc Urumhun óna dhlúthchara, Michael Boyle, Ard-Seansailéir na hÉireann agus Ardeaspag Ard Mhacha, i ndiaidh bhás Elizabeth:

tá an bhearna dúnta; tá an deacracht is mó i do shaol curtha díot agat; tá an duine is uaisle caillte agat, an bhean is críonna, an bhean chéile is fearr a mhair riamh; […] Mura bhfuil ag teip ar mo [chuimhne] chaith sibh 55 bliain sona sásta i dteannta a chéile; tá saol iomlán caite agaibh i dteannta a chéile? Thacaigh sibh lena chéile le linn ré lán athruithe agus tréimhsí nuair a bhí sibh saibhir agus bocht? agus thacaigh sibh lena chéile go comhthoiliúil? Bhí Dia cineálta & flaithiúil libh beirt i rith bhlianta deiridh bhur saoil; agus tá a fhios agat gur Críostaí díograiseach í Grace, agus anois ag deireadh bhur laethanta nach scarfar sibh ar an mbealach a scarann an bás daoine óna chéile.

Cailleadh diúc Urumhun ar an 21 Iúil 1688, an lá céanna ceithre bliana i ndiaidh ar cailleadh a bhean. Cuireadh é taobh léi i Mainistir Westminster
